Shippensburg’s students and their success are the central focus of everything that is done within the Office of Educational Intelligence and Technology. This area focuses on aligning our students with careers by providing a number or resources to help students discover careers and job opportunities that will enable them to be successful after they graduate. In addition, resources are available to provide data analysis on the latest workforce and job trends that allow faculty and staff to align course curriculum and career services to meet the ever-changing demands for diverse skills in today’s job market.

Pennsylvania Workforce Needs Assessment

The Pennsylvania Workforce Needs Assessment is a report produced by the State System Office of Advanced Data Analytics that attempts to predict the PA workforce’s occupational skills gaps.  The report uses completions and gradation data in conjunction with occupational and industry projections to estimate the flow of graduations from different educational programs into the occupations that they are most likely to fill. The results highlight which occupations will be ‘over supplied’ and which occupations will be ‘under supplied’ for the next ten years.  Results for the Shippensburg workforce region can be found on the workforce page of the

There are several additional resources outside of what is produced by the Office of Educational Intelligence and Technology that provide data and analysis related to the workforce and how it relates to Higher Education. These resources offer additional insight into the latest trends and measures involving workforce statics, occupational growth, industry growth, census data, and workforce skills gaps. Below is a list of resources commonly used in conjunction with our student data to analyze how Shippensburg is meeting the needs of the surrounding workforce and community:

The (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor is the principal federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy.  It offers a plethora of resources on a number of different industry topics that are designed for a number of different audiences.  Included in these resources is their , which contains data reports related to career information, occupational work environment, and more. Also on the BLS website is their , which is an easy interface to access and download raw data for further analysis and research.
The is a data dissemination platform produced by the U.S. Census Bureau that allows consumers to easily navigate, access, and download U.S. census data.  The data provided by the census includes population and housing rates, poverty and income data, demographic data, as well as healthcare related metrics.
The   tool is a data dissemination platform produced by the U.S Census Bureau that allows consumer to quickly learn about various census metrics for a specific region or area by means of intuitive interactive data visualizations.
– Created by Governor Wolf and his administration in 2016, OpenDataPA is an online collaborative platform for the public to gain access to specific state related data.  Datasets on the site include a number of topics, such as jobs and workforce innovation, and are uploaded from various agencies and departments across the commonwealth.
The   platform is one of the largest collections of public data visualizations on web. It offers a different way of viewing government census and microdata by creating profiles for different industries, cities and places, universities, degrees, and jobs that contain data visualizations of the related data for these profiles.  For example, data included in the includes cost, admissions, enrollment, graduations, and operational data, all sourced from public and government resources.
